Wisdom Tooth Removal in Gurgaon
Most people looking into wisdom tooth removal in Gurgaon have one of two questions: does this tooth really have to come out, and how bad will the week afterwards be? The first depends on what an X-ray shows. The second is usually easier than people fear, provided you follow a few simple rules. Modenta Dental Clinic in Sushant Lok Phase 1 assesses wisdom teeth with X-rays and removes them under local anaesthetic, and the reason for removing one is always explained first.

Does the tooth need to come out?
These are the usual reasons:
- Repeated swelling and pain in the gum over a partly erupted tooth
- Decay in the wisdom tooth, or in the molar in front of it, that cannot be repaired
- A tooth stuck at an angle and damaging its neighbour
- A cyst or infection around the tooth seen on an X-ray
A wisdom tooth that is healthy, fully through and easy to clean can usually stay. Not every impacted tooth needs surgery either, and some are simply watched at check-ups. If someone recommends taking out all four as a routine step, it is fair to ask why each one needs to go.
Simple or surgical removal
A tooth that has fully erupted can often be lifted out quite simply. A tooth under the gum, or one lying sideways, needs a small surgical procedure. The X-ray shows the position of the roots and how they sit against the nerve in the lower jaw, and you are told which type yours is before anything starts.
Healing, day by day
- First 24 hours. Bite gently on the gauze as instructed. Do not rinse, spit or use a straw, because the blood clot in the socket must stay in place. Rest with your head raised.
- Days two and three. Swelling usually peaks now. A cold pack on the cheek helps early on, and painkillers should be taken only as advised. Keep to soft, cool food such as curd, khichdi and mashed vegetables.
- Days four to seven. Soreness eases. Gentle salt-water rinses help keep the area clean, and you can move back towards normal food. Most people feel close to normal within a week to ten days.
When to call the clinic
Pain that gets worse after the third day, along with a bad taste, can mean a dry socket, which is simple to treat but will not settle without attention. Also call about bleeding that will not stop with firm pressure, fever, or swelling that keeps growing. Smoking in the first few days makes a dry socket more likely.

Frequently asked questions
Will I be awake for the removal?
Yes. It is done under local anaesthetic, so the area is numb and you may feel pressure but not sharp pain.
Should I have all my wisdom teeth out together?
Not by default. Each tooth is judged on its own X-ray, and teeth that are causing no harm can often stay.
How soon can I eat normally?
Most people return to normal food over about a week, starting with soft, cool food and chewing away from the socket.
Can a swollen wisdom tooth be removed straight away?
Sometimes the infection is treated first so that the anaesthetic works well and healing goes smoothly. The dentist decides after looking at it.
