Wisdom Tooth Removal in Sushant Lok, Gurugram

A treatment room at Modenta Dental Clinic, Sushant Lok, Gurugram

Wisdom teeth are the last molars to come in, usually between the late teens and mid-twenties. Many come through without trouble, but some get stuck, come in at an angle or keep getting infected, and then removing them is the kinder option. At Modenta Dental Clinic in Sushant Lok Phase 1, Sector 43, Gurugram, wisdom teeth are assessed with X-rays and removed under local anaesthetic, and the decision to remove one is always explained first.

When a wisdom tooth needs to come out

  • Repeated swelling and pain in the gum over a partly erupted tooth
  • Decay in the wisdom tooth or the molar in front of it that cannot be fixed
  • A tooth stuck at an angle that is damaging its neighbour
  • A cyst or infection around the tooth seen on an X-ray

A wisdom tooth that is healthy, fully through and easy to clean can usually stay. Not every impacted tooth needs removal either; some are simply watched with X-rays at check-ups.

Who it suits, and the alternatives

Removal suits people with the problems above or a tooth that keeps flaring up. When an infection is the only issue and the tooth is otherwise healthy, cleaning the area and treating the infection may be enough for a while. X-rays show how the roots sit in relation to the jaw before any decision is made.

What happens on the day

  1. X-ray and plan. The tooth's position and roots are checked, and you are told whether it is a simple or surgical removal.
  2. Numbing. Local anaesthetic numbs the area fully before anything starts.
  3. Removal. A tooth that is through is eased out; an impacted tooth may need a small opening in the gum and sometimes a few stitches.
  4. Aftercare advice. You go home the same day with written instructions and a follow-up visit if stitches were placed.

Recovery and aftercare

Swelling and soreness peak in the first two to three days and then ease. Bite on gauze for the first hour, use cold packs on the cheek on day one, eat soft cool food, and avoid smoking, straws and vigorous rinsing for the first day so the clot can protect the socket. From the next day, gentle warm salt-water rinses help. Call the clinic if pain gets worse after day three, as that can be a sign of a dry socket.

Frequently asked questions

Does every wisdom tooth need to come out?

No. A healthy, fully erupted wisdom tooth that you can clean well can stay. Removal is advised when it causes repeated problems or damages the tooth next to it.

Is wisdom tooth removal painful?

The area is fully numbed, so you feel pressure rather than pain during removal. Soreness afterwards usually settles within a few days with ordinary painkillers.

How long is the recovery?

Most people are back to normal routines in two to four days; a surgical removal can take a little longer to settle completely.

What is a dry socket?

It happens when the blood clot in the socket is lost too early, leaving the bone exposed and painful a few days after removal. Following the aftercare advice makes it much less likely.
